The construction industry is both “fragile and fragmentary,” and the
sad news is that it is not over yet for Las Vegas. This is according to
Ken Simonson who is chief economist for Associated General Contractor,
Washington D.C. He said that Nevada lost almost 100,000 construction
jobs, when construction employment hit 146,000 since June 2006, while
jobs scaled down to 48,000 in September.

He says that the state is continuing to lose construction jobs from one
year ago, though the numbers increased between August and September.

He adds that things stand at near bottom, and the amount of
foreclosures dropping while overall employment is rising. It is thus
crucial to get individual in a position to purchase homes, and fill up
stores. Another welcome news is the August higher sales tax receipt
fitting in well with national trend.

He observes that less than
half the states add construction employment over the years, and Nevada
is close to bottom for deepest construction losses. Victor Fuchs, Las
Vegas based Helix Electric president says he lost a number of employees
from 2 year ago, although he has been able to keep some 500 for the past
year.

Fuchs says that it has been stable, though they ended up
out of town to work in Utah and Arizona that provided them flexibility.

Majority of construction jobs in Las Vegas is public works and
remodeling, with Penta on a $40m upgrade at Bellagio, Las Vegas Paving
lately finishing a $252m facelift of Interstate 15, from Tropicana
Avenue to Silverado Ranch Boulevard.

Some projects like the
Shops at Summerlin mall are supposed to recommence construction the
following year. Projects that are up for bid include Callvile Bay
Wastepaper treatment together with 45,000 square-foot aerospace ground
equipment facilities at Nellis Air Force Base.

In order to help
and make sure there are some solutions, and to make sure that all those
projects will be constructed, there is some advices and some things to
do. For instance, looking for used heavy machinery is good way to find
construction equipment at the best rate. Some of them are supposed to
last long, very long and so even if you are buying an equipment that is a
few years old, it works very well.
